City of Naperville Announces New City Attorney

The City of Naperville is pleased to announce that Michael DiSanto, who most recently served as Acting City Attorney, has been named Naperville’s new City Attorney and Director of Legal earlier this week.

“Mike is a model of integrity and a well-respected leader,” City Manager Doug Krieger said. “His aptitude for hard work, sound ethics and a keen understanding of municipal law make him a natural fit for Naperville’s next City Attorney.”

Before his arrival at the City in 2007, DiSanto served as an associate attorney with the firm Busse, Busse & Grasse, P.C. He started in Naperville as an Assistant City Attorney until 2012, when he was named City Prosecutor. In 2015, he assumed the role of Deputy Legal Director.

In his roles as Deputy Legal Director and Acting City Attorney, DiSanto oversaw litigation, land use, development, prosecutions, liquor licensing and contract negotiations, including labor unions. As Acting City Attorney, DiSanto was also responsible for providing legal counsel at City Council meetings.

DiSanto holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Pre-Law from Eastern Illinois University and a Juris Doctor from John Marshall Law School. He is married to Eirian and together they have four children and live in Naperville.

“I'm thrilled to accept the City Attorney position and thankful for the support and trust of the City Manager, the Mayor and City Council, the City's legal team and my family,” DiSanto said. “It is a privilege to represent this extraordinary City where I grew up and where my family and I live. The full measure of my abilities and those of the legal department will continue to be committed to upholding the law and the best interests of the City of Naperville.”

City Prosecutor Kavita Athanikar will add the role of Deputy Legal Director to her duties, effective immediately.
