Naperville Police Announce Positive Tobacco Compliance Check Results

The Naperville Police Department recently completed the city’s second round of tobacco compliance checks and is pleased to report that all of the approximately 70 establishments checked were in compliance.

Utilizing a person under 21 years of age, compliance checks were performed during the third and fourth weeks of January at approximately 70 establishments in Naperville to determine if local tobacco retailers are complying with the minimum-age tobacco laws that prohibit the sale of tobacco to persons under the age of 21. No establishments failed the compliance check.

With the help from a grant awarded by the Illinois Liquor Control Commission’s “Kids Can’t Buy ‘Em Here” Tobacco Enforcement Program, the Naperville Police Department educates local tobacco retailers on minimum-age tobacco laws and the importance of verifying the age of customers before selling age-restrictive products such as tobacco. All tobacco retailers are given a retailer education packet and are notified that the tobacco checks are going to occur in the near future.
