Naperville Police Provide Update to Fatal Traffic Crash

Naperville Police on February 16, 2018, secured charges against the driver of a Subaru Impreza that struck and killed a 26-year-old man near the intersection of Fort Hill Drive and 75th Street in November.

Steven R. Holmes, 28, of Millington, Ill., is charged with one count of Aggravated Use of Electronic Communication Device, a class 4 felony, and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.

On Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at approximately 12:01 a.m., the Naperville Police and Fire Departments responded to 75th Street and Fort Hill Drive for a crash involving a 2004 Blue Kia Optima driven by Ramiro Fonseca, 26, of Itasca and a 2017 Black Subaru Impreza driven by Holmes. The initial investigation indicated that the Subaru Impreza was eastbound on 75th towards Book Road when it struck Fonseca, who was outside the vehicle changing a tire.

Fonseca was transported to Edward Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The Naperville Traffic Unit trained in accident investigation and reconstruction responded to the scene to investigate the accident, resulting in the charges against Holmes.
