Utility bills are distributed monthly. Naperville offers a number of convenient payment methods. In addition, the City’s Finance Department accepts a number of payment options including: cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and bank-drafting.
Previous/Current Readings Being Removed from Electric Bills
Starting in November, the City of Naperville will no longer list previous and current electric meter readings on customers’ utility bills. This change has come about as these two readings are no longer used to calculate electric bills each month.
With the advent of Naperville’s smart metering system that measures electric usage in timed increments, this electric usage is now used to calculate the bill. Electric usage is defined as the total energy measured in kilowatt hours (kWh) used between midnight on the first and last day of a customer’s billing period.
Due to this new definition, current and previous readings are no longer applicable to determining billing and are being removed from bills so as not to confuse customers. Please note that customers can check their electric meter readings on the start and end dates of their billing periods if they wish to estimate their usage and compare it against their bill. Instructions are available at www.naperville.il.us/readingyoursmartmeter.aspx. The difference between the start and end readings is a reasonable estimate of usage; however, a customer must make sure to read their meter on the correct start and end billing dates.
Residents can choose to have payments automatically deducted from their checking account. Call (630) 420-6059 to have a bank-draft form mailed to your home, or download a Bank Draft Application.
To cancel Bank Draft, please send a written request to the Finance Department at 400 S. Eagle St., Naperville, IL 60540 or fax to (630) 305-6226. Please allow 30 days for the change to take effect.
If heating and cooling bills are busting your budget, Budget Billing might be for you. With Budget Billing you can plan on paying the same amount for your utility service every month with an annual settle-up review. Budget Billing is based on the average utility bill for the previous year. If your utility charges should increase during the current year, the budget amount would be increased. Residents can drop off payments in person at the city's Finance Department during normal business hours. There is also a 24-hour drive-thru, drop-off box located in the lower parking garage of the Municipal Center.
