Purpose
Naperville strives to be a city where bicycling is a viable option for recreation, school, commuting, shopping and fitness trips. Many great bicycle facilities are in place throughout the city; but to achieve this goal, Naperville's bikeway system continues to evolve. The City of Naperville Bicycle Implementation Plan guides the establishment of new bicycle facilities throughout the city.
A copy of the implementation document is available below.
Work Programs
Each fiscal year, staff prepares a work program that outlines which tasks will be accomplished during that year in order to implement routes included in the Bicycle Implementation Plan. Staff is currently completing tasks included in the FY10-11 Bicycle Implementation Plan Work Program (PDF).
Project Background
The Bicycle Implementation Plan was updated during 2006. City staff worked collaboratively with the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) to conduct a public process through which the plan was updated. The process involved establishing criteria for route evaluation, utilizing the criteria to score possible routes, and then comparing scores for all routes to determine relative priorities.
