Overview
Located 28 miles west of Chicago, Naperville occupies a land area of 37.58 square miles with a population of more than 145,000. The city has grown by over 35,000 residents in the past 10 years, making it one of the fastest growing communities in the nation.  In order to preserve the character and quality of the community, the City of Naperville adopted a master plan to guide development. 

The city provides special guidelines for a number of development types, such as residential teardown redevelopment, historic area public improvements and commercial tenant build-out.  Residents are encouraged to contact the Transportation, Engineering and Development Department before beginning any new construction or improvement project to make sure they comply with local codes and ordinances.
