EPA’s Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule

Effective immediately, the City of Naperville's Building Permit Counter will be closed daily between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.  The counter is located on the main floor of the Municipal Center in the Transportation, Engineering, and Development Business Group.

About Building Permits

Before beginning any new construction or additions to existing buildings, including decks, fences or pools, residents must obtain necessary building permits through Development Services. Municipal codes also regulate sign installation, water softeners, air conditioners, swimming pools, fences, antennas, lawn sprinkler systems, driveways and accessory outbuildings.

EPA’s Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule

As a contractor, you play an important role in protecting public health by helping prevent lead exposure. Ordinary renovation and maintenance activities can create dust that contains lead––even small amounts of lead can harm children and adults.

New Rules for Contractors
Beginning April 2010 contractors performing work that disturbs lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must:

  • Be EPA certified, and
  • Follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination.

To learn more about how you can meet these requirements contact the National Lead Information Center at 1-800-424-LEAD (5323) or visit www.epa.gov/lead.

Be prepared for these new requirements!
