City Invites Public to Open House for South Washington Street Bridge

NAPERVILLE, Ill.— The City of Naperville invites the public to attend an open house to view and comment on exhibits of pedestrian bridge alternatives that are designed to improve mobility on the south Washington Street Bridge located between Ring and Royce roads.
The open house will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27 at the Naper Boulevard Library Program Room, 2035 S. Naper Blvd. Engineering consultants will provide one presentation at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. and exhibits of the proposed alternatives will be provided. City representatives also will be available during the open house to answer questions and provide information about the scope of the study and exhibits.
The existing roadway bridge over the West Branch DuPage River currently does not have a sidewalk or shoulder. City staff is working with TranSystems, an engineering consultant, to conduct the feasibility study to identify potential pedestrian accommodations. The initial phase of the study included an evaluation of existing conditions and consideration of various conceptual improvements. Through this process, two alternative improvements have been selected for more thorough study and one preferred alternative will be selected based on the study results and public input.
