Personnel Respond to Structure Fire on
100 Block of Loomis Street

NAPERVILLE, Ill.—  At 1:17 AM on Friday morning (1/8/16), Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call from the homeowner stating flames were coming from the roof of his residence. PSAP dispatched a General alarm assignment to the reported address, which brought 12 pieces of fire apparatus and 26 fire personnel to the scene.

The first fire unit arrived on scene at 1:19 AM and reported black smoke showing from the eaves with evacuation in progress. The first in fire company experienced no smoke from the basement up to the top floor, but recognized that the fire was burning in the attic. Access was gained to this tight space with difficulty, but once companies were able to advance a hose line into this area, the fire was quickly extinguished. The stubborn attic fire was extinguished within 40 minutes of the arrival of the first fire company. The family safely exited the structure and neighbors took the children in during the course of firefighting.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and there were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.

The residence has been deemed uninhabitable by Naperville’s Transportation, Engineering, and Development department. Companies from the Downers Grove and Wheaton Fire Departments as well as the Lockport and Plainfield Fire Protection Districts provided station coverage for the rest of the City during the course of the incident.
