Overview

The Guaranteed Ride Home Program has been established in response to commuter requests for increased flexibility to be incorporated into the city’s transit services. The city is offering the Guaranteed Ride Home Program to Naperville residents who use Pace bus services to access the Metra train stations. The intent of the program is to guarantee transportation home in the event of an unexpected emergency and, as a result, encourage more residents to use alternative transportation options.

How the Program Works

Participating Pace bus commuters will receive a maximum of twelve vouchers annually that will allow them take a taxi from one of the Metra train stations to their home or designated Park-n-Ride. Once registered, the participants are eligible to travel by taxi at any time when Pace buses are not in service. Upon completion of the trip, the commuter will pay for the fare and request a receipt to document the taxi cab company, date, and time of travel. Commuters must register for the program in order to qualify for reimbursement.

All applications for the Guaranteed Ride Home Program will be reviewed by city staff and a reimbursement rate will be determined for each participant based on the distance between the individual’s home and their preferred Metra train station. If the participant uses a Park-n-Ride, the distance between the Metra station and the Park-n-Ride lot will be used to calculate the reimbursement rate. Reimbursement rates will be set at the start of each calendar year and will be based on current taxi fare rates for companies registered to operate in Naperville.

To receive reimbursement, commuters are required to submit the receipt and voucher to the city within ten business days of the taxi cab trip.
