The City of Naperville is pleased to announce it is continuing the Guaranteed Ride Home Program in 2012. If you were enrolled in the 2011 program, you will be automatically enrolled in the 2012 program. All enrolled participants for the 2012 program will receive vouchers through the mail in mid December. Enrolled participants may begin using 2012 reimbursement vouchers on January 1, 2012.
Participants enrolled in the 2011 Guaranteed Ride Home Program may submit receipt and vouchers for reimbursement through February 1, 2012.
New in 2012
The following changes will be implemented as part of the 2012 Guaranteed Ride Home Program.
- The city will issue reimbursement for eligible taxi rides at the predetermined taxi fare amount or the actual fare paid, whichever is less. This is a change from the previous years when reimbursement was issued at a flat rate, regardless of actual fare paid.
In addition, the following changes implemented with the 2011 Guaranteed Ride Home Program will continue through 2012.
- For taxi cab trips completed during the 2012 calendar year, enrolled participants may submit a receipt and voucher for reimbursement through February 1, 2013. This is a change from the previous 21 day requirement for submittal of a receipt and voucher.
- Reimbursement checks are issued on a monthly basis. This is a change from the previous twice monthly reimbursement process and was done to reduce the number of checks the city issues. Multiple vouchers submitted in one month will be reimbursed in one check.
- Participants are encouraged to submit multiple receipts and vouchers for reimbursement to reduce the number of checks the city issues. Furthermore, participants are encouraged to sign up for Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT). More information on the EFT option is available below.
Overview
The Guaranteed Ride Home Program was established in 2009 in response to requests for increased flexibility in commuter transit services in Naperville. The program is available and intended to offer alternative transportation during non-peak travel times to commuters who are Naperville residents and use Pace bus services to travel to and from a Naperville Metra station.
How the Program Works
All participants are required to register for the program and will receive a maximum of 12 vouchers annually allowing them to take a taxi from one of the Metra stations to their home or designated Park-and-Ride. Registered participants are eligible to travel by taxi when Pace buses are not in service, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. Monday through Friday. The user is required to pay for the fare and request a receipt to document the taxi cab company, date, and time of travel for reimbursement by the city.
All requests for reimbursement will be reviewed by city staff and a reimbursement rate will be determined for each participant based on the distance between the individual’s home and their preferred Naperville Metra station. If the participant uses a Park-and-Ride, the distance between the Metra station and the Park-and-Ride lot will be used to calculate the reimbursement rate. Reimbursement rates will be set at the start of each calendar year and will be based on current taxi fare rates for companies registered to operate in Naperville. The city will issue reimbursement for eligible taxi rides at the predetermined taxi fare amount or the actual fare paid, whichever is less.
