Fire Department Battles Structure Fire in 200 Block of Bay Colony Drive

At 10:49AM on Monday morning (09/26/2016), Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call reporting fire within the callers home possibly within a bedroom. PSAP immediately dispatched a general alarm assignment consisting of 3 engine companies, 2 Truck Companies, 1 squad company, 2 medic units, an incident commander and a safety officer to the scene, 24 personnel.

Naperville’s Fire Engine 2 was first on the scene, within 4 minutes, and reported fire showing from the 2 story single family home. The engine officer confirmed all occupants had evacuated from the home and began an aggressive attack on the main body of fire. As additional crews arrived they secured a water supply and dropped additional hose lines to support the firefighters within the structure. The truck company assisted by providing ventilation while the remaining companies performed salvage and overhaul operations to search for hidden fire and protect contents within the building from further damage. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes and completely extinguished within 30 minutes. Companies were supported on the scene by a rehab trailer and an air unit.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Naperville Fire Investigation Team. The Naperville Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Naperville Police Department, the Naperville Electric Department (NED), NICOR Gas, and a representative from the Transportation Engineering and Development (TED) group. Bolingbrook, Plainfield and Wheaton Fire agencies provided station coverage during this incident.

The home was determined to be uninhabitable by the Transportation Engineering and Development Inspector on the scene.
