Fire Department Extinguishes Structure Fire in 700 Block of East Ogden Avenue

NAPERVILLE, Ill.— At 9:40 PM on Monday evening (1/11/16), Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a fire alarm activation from the single story commercial structure. Based on the report from a custodian on scene that “the building was on fire,” PSAP upgraded the assignment to a General alarm while companies were en route. The alarm brought 12 pieces of fire apparatus and 26 fire personnel to the scene.

The first fire unit arrived on scene at 9:42 PM and initially reported nothing showing from the front of the structure, however upon attaining a 4-sided view, smoke was visible from the rear. Based on the building size up and smoke conditions, the engine company deployed a 2 ½” hose line and entered the fire building while next arriving units performed ventilation and overhaul operations. Through the efforts of multiple Naperville Fire companies in severe weather conditions, the fire was brought under control within 20 minutes of the arrival of the first engine company.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and there were no injuries to firefighters or civilians. Due to the extensive damage, the structure has been deemed uninhabitable by Naperville’s Transportation, Engineering, and Development department. An engine company from the Wheaton Fire Department assisted with one emergency call during the incident, but the City was covered by Naperville Fire units for the duration of the incident.
