Fire Department Responds to Smoke Investigation in 2500 Block of 75th Street

At 9:42 PM on Monday evening (11/07/2016), Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call reporting smoke inside a retail store at the 2500 block of 75th Street. The call was received from a worker inside the building who reported some fabric was on fire but it was extinguished by workers with a fire extinguisher. PSAP immediately dispatched a single vehicle response for the fire out investigation. Upon direction from the shift commander the alarm was upgraded to a full still assignment bringing 2 engines, 1 truck, 1 ambulance and 2 shift commanders. (13 personnel)

Naperville’s Fire Engine 10 was first on the scene, within 6 minutes, and initially reported nothing showing from three sides of the large commercial building. There was no evacuation and the buildings fire alarm system was not activated. Engine 10’s crew entered the building and found moderate smoke conditions throughout the building and initiated an immediate evacuation of all occupants while responding crews could investigate the source of smoke. The fire officer was able to confirm that a small fire had started within the fabric section of the store and was fully extinguished prior to the fire departments arrival. Crews worked for the next hour to investigate the cause and remove smoke from the structure.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Naperville Fire Department and Naperville Police Department.

Fire units from the Aurora Fire Department assisted at the scene.

There were no reported injuries to firefighters or citizens.
