Firefighters Battle Structure Fire in 400 Block of South Brainard Street

At 02:36 AM Wednesday morning, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a report of the activated fire alarm at the residence hall located in the 400 block of South Brainard. Naperville 911 (PSAP) dispatched a General Alarm assignment to the reported address which brought 12 pieces of fire apparatus and 26 fire personnel to the scene.

The first fire unit arrived on scene at 02:42 AM reported a fire in the second floor of the residence hall. The alarm was upgraded to a box alarm which brought in additional fire apparatus to the scene. Fire attack was initiated by the first-arriving fire companies. The fire was found to be burning in the second floor residence. The fire was quickly extinguished and confined to the area of origin. Upon the arrival of additional fire companies, salvage and overhaul operations were performed. No civilian injuries were reported. An inspector from Naperville’s Transportation Engineering and Development (TED) was also notified. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and is currently under investigation. The residence hall was deemed habitable.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by Naperville Police Department and the Naperville Central Campus Security. The Warrenville Fire Protection District, Wheaton Fire Department, Bolingbrook Fire Department, Westmont Fire Department, Downers Grove Fire Department and the Plainfield Fire Protection District provided coverage for Naperville fire stations during this incident. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
