Naperville Police Department Announces Tobacco Compliance Check Results
NAPERVILLE, Ill.— The Naperville Police Department completed the 2nd round of tobacco compliance checks in Naperville during the 3rd and 4th weeks of January. Approximately 70 establishments were checked with a person under the age of 18 years of age and one establishment failed the compliance check. The compliance checks are performed to determine if local tobacco retailers are complying with the minimum-age tobacco laws which prohibit the sale of tobacco to persons under the age of 18. With help from a grant awarded by the Illinois Liquor Control Commission’s “Kids Can’t Buy ‘Em Here” Tobacco Enforcement Program, the Naperville Police Department educates local tobacco retailers on minimum-age tobacco laws and the importance of verifying the age of customers before selling age-restrictive products such as tobacco. All tobacco retailers are given an education packet and are notified that the tobacco checks are going to occur in the near future.
The following business failed the compliance check and the clerk who sold the cigarettes was issued a City Ordinance citation for selling tobacco to a person under the age of 18 Years old.
