Personnel Respond to Structure Fire on 2000 Block of Aurora Ave.

NAPERVILLE, Ill.— At 1:05 pm on Saturday afternoon (1/2/16), Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call from an employee stating the fire alarm was sounding and there was smoke coming from a rear storage room, but no flames seen. PSAP dispatched a General Alarm assignment to the reported address, which brought 12 pieces of fire apparatus and 26 fire personnel to the scene.

The first arriving fire unit arrived on scene at 1:10 PM and reported nothing showing from three sides of the business. Upon entry, heavy smoke was encountered to the floor, at which time the alarm was upgraded by the Shift Commander to a Box Alarm, which brought another 4 pieces of equipment and 11 personnel. Location and extinguishment was made more difficult due to the size of the structure, however after the deployment of several hose lines and coordinated operations, including the building’s sprinkler system, the fire was located and extinguished 46 minutes after the initial dispatch.

Damage to the structure was moderate, however damage to contents within the structure was extensive due to smoke, fire, and water.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and there were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by companies from the Aurora Fire Department and the Plainfield Fire Protection District. Units from the Downers Grove and Bolingbrook Fire Departments as well as the Warrenville and Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection Districts provided station coverage for the rest of the City during the course of the incident.
