Structure Fire 1400 Block of Briarwood Drive

At 08:05AM on Friday, May 13, 2016, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call reporting a fire at the 1400 block of Briarwood Drive. The call was received from an occupant who was inside the home. PSAP immediately dispatched a general alarm assignment consisting of three engine companies, two truck companies, one squad, two ambulances, two alternate response vehicles, an incident commander and a safety officer to the scene, a total of 26 personnel.

Naperville’s Battalion 1 and Engine 7 were first on the scene, within four minutes, and reported smoke showing from the front of a raised ranch single family home. The engine company began an interior search for the source of the smoke. Crews advanced a charged hose line into the structure and determined the fire was located in the basement. A medic company assisted the fire attack team, and a truck company began an immediate search for occupants. It was determined that all three occupants had self-evacuated, however a search was conducted as a precautionary measure. Crews extinguished the basement fire within 10 minutes of arrival and began salvage and overhaul operations to search for hidden fire.

The home sustained fire damage to the basement and moderate smoke staining to the interior and was deemed uninhabitable by the Transportation Engineering and Development inspector on scene. The residents were able to relocate to a nearby family member’s residence for the day. The Naperville Fire Department was assisted with station coverage by the Bolingbrook and Lisle Fire Departments.

There were no reported injuries to firefighters or citizens.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by members of the Naperville Fire Investigation Team.
