Structure Fire on the 2200 Block of Comstock Avenue

At 3:25 pm on Thursday, June 30, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point received a homeowner’s call reporting smoke coming from the garage of a two story, single family residence located on the 2200 block of Comstock Avenue. PSAP immediately dispatched a general alarm assignment of 3 engines, 2 trucks, 1 squad, 2 ALS ambulances, 1 Rescue Vehicle, and 2 shift commanders to the scene.

The first arriving unit (Truck Company 5) reported light smoke coming from the front of the building. Fire crews quickly confirmed all occupants were out of the building and initiated an aggressive interior fire attack. Crew members advised the fire was located in the attached garage of the structure. As the incident progressed fire extension was noted to the exterior walls of the garage. The fire was brought under control within ten minutes of the fire department’s arrival and completely extinguished within thirty minutes. Crews remained on the scene for an additional hour completing overhaul and determined the fire started on the outside of the building in some landscaping material before making it wat into the garage space. Two vehicles inside the garage were also damaged from the fire.

There were no injuries to either civilians or firefighters. The extent of the damage is moderate in nature, however the residence was deemed habitable by the Transportation, Engineering, & Development (T.E.D.) inspector on scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Naperville Police and Transportation and Engineering Departments. Units from the Bolingbrook and the Plainfield Fire Protection District assisted in providing coverage to the rest of the city during the incident.
