Utility Restoration

City of Naperville staff perform regular maintenance and necessary repairs or upgrades to City water, sewer or electrical structures all year long. Certain types of maintenance, repairs and upgrades can disturb the parkway, driveway, yard or street. When this happens, our goal is to restore the property as quickly as possible.

City staff will leave a door hanger notification with information about the type of restoration you should expect on or near your property.

Residents can use the Restoration Status Map to look up the status of work being done in your area. Simply type the address of interest into the search bar to learn the work type, project status (open/closed) and the projected completion date. Please note, restorations areas do not show up on the map until after work has been submitted for repairs.

Restoration Program

Restoration work for the year begins in early April. Our goal is to have your property restored as quickly as possible. Landscape restorations needed from work completed over the winter are expected to be complete by the end of May. Concrete and asphalt restorations will resume after April 15 when weather conditions permit.

Landscape Restorations

When City jobs requires landscape restoration, the City’s contractor Alaniz Landscape Corp. Inc. performs the work between the months of April and November. The work cannot be completed during the winter season due to weather conditions and lack of available landscape material.

Lawn repairs are typically completed with dirt, seed and straw blanket. Previous experience has revealed that growing grass from dirt and seed generally blends in better with the rest of the lawn in comparison to sod.  In addition, sod can be very difficult to keep alive during the summer months.

If work causes damage to plant material other than grass, City staff or the landscaper will be in contact with you to discuss the replacement of  bushes, flowers, shrubs, etc. that were removed.

When restoration work is complete, please assist us in keeping the new grass and landscaping alive and healthy by monitoring the area and watering as needed, especially on hot days.

The netting may be removed once the grass is established. To remove, gently pull it out of the grass and dispose of it in the trash.

Concrete and Asphalt Restoration

When repairs to your property require concrete and/or asphalt restoration, work is performed between April 15 and November 30. This type of work cannot be completed during the winter season due to weather conditions.

Concrete Restoration

Concrete repairs are completed before asphalt and landscaping. The City of Naperville works with a concrete contractor to perform concrete restoration. This work may involve the removal of curb, sidewalk, and/or driveway.

Concrete repairs on or near a driveway may keep you out of your driveway for a period of seven to ten days to allow the concrete to attain enough strength to withstand heavy vehicle loads. If this is necessary, City staff will leave a door hanger notice on your property. Please display this door hanger inside your vehicle on the rearview mirror. If you need additional door hangers for additional vehicles, please call (630) 420-6095.

Asphalt Restoration

Asphalt repairs are completed by in-house City staff from the Department of Public Works. Asphalt repairs will be scheduled shortly after the concrete repairs are completed.
