2013 Sanitary Sewer Lining Project
Created February 6, 2013

Description:
The City of Naperville Department, Public Utilities - Water has contracted with Insituform Technologies USA to line approximately 18,000 linear feet of sanitary sewer mains in 2013. This contract is part of an ongoing program to rehabilitate the City’s oldest sewer mains using Cured-In-Place-Pipelining technology. The CIPP process avoids costly and disruptive excavation by inserting a custom-fitted liner into the existing sewer main. The liner, which is saturated with resins, is then heat-cured to form what is essentially a new pipe inside of the old pipe.

This type of project involves large equipment, pumps and bypass hoses, and is completed in segments. There is usually no digging involved, and the work is completed quickly, with each segment taking one or two days. Residents should anticipate moderate noise levels from the operation of equipment and pumps.

Location:
The majority of the work will take place along Ogden Ave. from Center Ave. to Iroquois Ave., including portions of adjacent streets in the work area. Additional work locations are in older neighborhoods throughout Naperville.

Timeline:
Construction is expected to begin in March 2013, with substantial completion by the end of June 2013.

Traffic:
No major detours or lengthy disruptions are anticipated. There will be intermittent lane closures on Ogden Avenue. Residential streets are expected to remain open during construction.

Parking:
On-street parking and access to driveways may be temporarily restricted in residential areas during active phases of construction. These inconveniences will be of short duration, and residents will receive advance notice.

Utility Service:
Water and sewer service will not be disrupted during construction. Residents will be asked to fill their floor drains with fresh water so as to prevent sewer gasses and odors from entering the living space.

Restoration:
No excavation is planned. There may be minor damage to lawns and parkways due to the placement and operation of equipment. Affected landscapes will be professionally restored at the end of the project.
