The City of Naperville Department, Public Utilities - Water has contracted with Insituform Technologies USA to rehabilitate 1,985’ of 36” concrete sanitary sewer interceptor pipe and nine manholes that run along Raymond Dr from McDowell Rd south to Redfield Rd This important sewer main transfers wastewater from the City of Warrenville and the northwest area of Naperville to a large pumping station at N. River Rd. The project is scheduled to begin in Mid October and continue through the end of November. Insituform Technologies USA will be lining this sewer with cured-in–place pipe (CIPP). This trenchless technology was chosen because of the difficult area in which this sewer main is located. CIPP involves inserting a flexible liner into the existing sewer pipe and heating the resin until it is hard. This trenchless method will eliminate tree loss, prevent the disturbance of nearby landscaping, and avoid long-term traffic inconveniences. It’s a cost effective and efficient way to repair underground pipelines. This method of sewer rehabilitation will add another 50-100 years of life to the sanitary sewer system.
You may experience some temporary inconveniences during this project, including contractor equipment parking, 24-hours a day noise from the operation of the installation and pumping equipment and minor traffic control interruptions however no detours. Road ramps for the bypass pumping will be used across Redfield Rd, Queensgreens Dr, Trinity Church and Chanticleers Lakes Condos.
Any damage that may occur to the construction site or adjacent grounds will be repaired and restored to pre-construction conditions. To ensure this, Insituform and the Department of Public Utilities –Water will video tape all above ground structures. Prior to the start of construction city representatives may require access to your private property and will ask permission before entering. The areas directly affected will be, Raymond Dr, Redfield Rd, Queensgreens Dr, Trinity Church, Chanticleers Lakes Condos, and McDowell Rd.
Below describes the work to be done:
- Step 1 - Setting up by-pass pumping of the wastewater
Several manholes will be excavated for pumping and installation of the liner. Pumps will be set up along the Southwest corner of McDowell and Raymond Dr. 18” plastic pipe will run along Raymond Dr.
- Step 2 - Cleaning the sewer main
The entire length of the sanitary sewer will be cleaned with high pressure water to remove all debris.
- Step 3 - Installing the Liner
The liner will be installed from a manhole located in the middle of the project and the liner will be installed using water. After the liner is installed the water will be heated to harden the resin in place. This process will happen several times because of the length of this project; this step will be a 24 hour a day operation.
- Step 4 - Manhole Rehabilitation
After the lining is complete the nine manholes will be sprayed with a two-part epoxy to prolong the life of these structures.
- Step 5 - Completion of project
After all of the rehabilitation work is completed the by-pass pumping will be taken down, the affected areas will be cleaned and any restoration work will be done.
