Electrical and Electrical Low Voltage Permit

Permitting, Plans and Licensing Portal Now Available

Residential customers are now able to apply for this permit through the City’s new Permitting, Plans and Licensing Portal. The new portal gathers all of the information needed to apply, pay for, and manage permits in one convenient place. Non-residential customers should continue to follow the electronic submittal process outlined on the Building Permits page. It is designed for use on a desktop/laptop computer.

A permit is required prior to beginning any electrical work within the City of Naperville's boundaries. This includes any low-voltage wiring for the installation of security systems and office data cable network systems that exceed 25 volts or 50 watts. All electrical installations must be performed by a state-licensed electrical contractor who is registered with the City of Naperville and must comply with the 2017 National Electric Code (NFPA 70).
