Water Meter Replacement/Maintenance Program

As part of the Water Utility's ongoing commitment to providing its customers with safe, reliable and cost-efficient water services, the Water Meter Maintenance/Replacement Program routinely replaces older water meters that have outlived their useful life and when maintenance is no longer viable. This program helps increase the efficiency of the water meter reading process and ensure accurate billing for our customers.
In 2017, customers with eligible meters both north and south of 75th Street will receive notification that their meter needs replacement. Work will continue to move south throughout the City in the coming years based on when meters meet eligibility criteria for replacement.

- Red-shaded area - First notification will be received on or around February 1
- Blue-shaded area - First notification will be received on or around April 1
- Yellow-shaded area - First notification will be received on or around June 1
- Green-shaded area - First notification will be received on or around August 1
- Who is Eligible?
Water meters are identified as due for maintenance/replacement as part of this program when they have reached a certain age and/or are of a certain model. Water meter replacement is provided at no cost, and access to water meters is authorized by Sections 8-2A-1 and 8-2A-1:5.5.32 of the City of Naperville Municipal Code.
- What to Expect if Your Meter is Being Replaced
The City has contracted with HBK Water Meter Service, Inc. to assist with water meter replacements.
Because your water meter is located inside your home - usually in the basement, utility room or crawl space - you must schedule an appointment with HBK for your meter replacement. Please contact HBK at (847) 202-4389 to schedule an appointment, or visit www.hbkmeters.com and click on the Naperville link to schedule your appointment online.
Water meter replacements are typically scheduled during weekday business hours. If these times do not work with your schedule, please call HBK at the above number to make alternate arrangements.
Your water meter replacement will take approximately 30 minutes to one hour to complete. Water service will be turned off during that time and will be restored once the new meter is installed. To assist in these efforts, please make sure that your water meter is easily accessible to the installer and that the individual present in your home during the appointment is at least 18 years old. HBK will not enter the home if the only person present is younger than 18.
HBK employees adhere to the same courteous and professional service standards as Naperville utility employees, will arrive on time and will carry City-issued photo ID cards. Their vehicles will carry a placard indicating that they are an authorized contractor for the City. HBK is prohibited from soliciting additional work.
