Traffic Section

The Traffic Section is commanded by Deputy Chief Vince Gortner, who has administrative responsibilities for the Traffic Enforcement and Traffic Crash Investigations Unit, Parking Enforcement, Vehicle Reclamation and Special Events Units of the Naperville Police Department.

Enforcement and Investigation Unit
A significant part of the Naperville Police Department’s service to the community involves a continuous effort to improve traffic safety and facilitate the safe movement of vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians throughout the City. These are the primary goals of the Traffic Enforcement and Traffic Crash Investigations Unit. In addition to the highly visible motorcycle officers deployed throughout the city, specially-trained traffic officers respond to serious injury and fatal traffic collisions. Truck enforcement officers help ensure the safety of our community by monitoring the large trucks using the city’s roadways.

Parking Enforcement and Special Events
Parking enforcement is a very important part of the Naperville Police Department's Traffic Section’s responsibilities. Officers enforce parking regulations on a day-to-day basis and during various special events throughout the year. The Traffic Section plans, coordinates and directs traffic related Naperville Police activities associated with numerous special events in the City of Naperville.
