Public Works Tree Trimming
Public Works trims parkway trees on a five-year cycle. Trees are also pruned to improve shape and vitality. Citizens who damage electric lines or equipment by improper tree trimming will be charged repair costs.
For parkway tree trimming issues or to obtain specifications for residents to follow when trimming parkway trees, call the Department of Public Works at (630) 420-6095.
Electric Utility Tree Trimming
The Department of Public Utilities – Electric (DPU-E) is committed to delivering safe reliable power to its customers. Tree limbs touching an electric line can cause intermittent service or outages leaving hundreds of people without power. Children climbing trees near overhead power lines are at risk of serious injury or death. Trees and bushes blocking underground equipment can cause delays in restoring power. Therefore, DPU-E contracts tree trimming services to safeguard the general public as well as DPU-E employees. These services are conducted by professionals trained in line clearance tree trimming and follow ANSI and OSHA standards.
Tree trimming around overhead electric power lines is conducted on an approximate three-year trim cycle. During this routine line clearing, all branches and brush taken down will be removed from properties. In a situation such as a wind storm, fallen tree limbs will only be removed from the power lines to clear our facilities and restore power. All branches, brush and wood will remain where the tree fell, and any cleanup will be the responsibility of the homeowner.
