Overview
AT&T is launching its U-verse service in the Naperville area. This is an IP-based video service that integrates digital TV, high-speed internet and digital voice services delivered over a fiber network.
Between 2008 and 2011, AT&T will install approximately 135 U-verse cabinets throughout the city in an effort to provide AT&T’s customers with the enhanced internet and television services. To date, more than 30 U-Verse cabinets have been installed.
Service Installation Process
To provide U-Verse service to Naperville residents, AT&T must install U-Verse cabinets at various locations throughout Naperville. All cabinets will be located near existing AT&T utility facilities, the majority of which are located on public property in the parkway.
A small number of U-verse cabinets, however, may be located within public utility easements on private property if a suitable location cannot be provided on publicly owned property. Cabinet installation can only commence after a City of Naperville construction permit has been approved.
Upon completion of installation, all areas affected by construction activity will be restored to their original condition and inspected by city officials. City officials will oversee each step of the installation and restoration process.
Each cabinet site will be evaluated after cabinet installation is complete to determine if additional landscaping is required in the immediate area to restore it to its original condition. Landscape Program
The city will be evaluating each U-Verse site to determine if additional landscaping is required to restore the area immediately surrounding the cabinet to its original condition. Factors considered when evaluating the appropriateness of landscaping include pedestrian and vehicular safety and visibility, conflicts with existing underground utilities in the immediate area, and aesthetic appearance. Each site will be evaluated by the city after AT&T has completed their installation work to determine the feasibility of landscape installation.
