Firefighters Battle Apartment Fire in 1400 Block of Fairway Drive

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — At 8:09 PM on Sunday evening (04/30/2017), Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call from the alarm monitoring company reporting an activation of the fire alarm at the multi-family residence located in the1400 block of Fairway. A resident also called 911 and reported a kitchen fire in their apartment. Naperville 911(PSAP) dispatched a General Alarm assignment to the reported address which brought 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 fire personnel to the scene.

The first unit arrived on scene at 8:14 PM and reported smoke showing from the third floor residence. Fire attack was initiated by the first-arriving engine, medic, and truck companies and a water source was secured. The fire was found to be burning in the kitchen, which was quickly extinguished. Crews checked for extension in the ceiling and attic of the apartment unit. Additional fire companies on the scene complete an interior search of the multi family residence. One civilian injury was reported. The patient was treated on scene. An inspector from Naperville’s Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) was also notified. The cause of the fire was determined accidental due to cooking and the apartment unit was deemed uninhabitable. The adjacent apartments units were deemed habitable.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department. The Bolingbrook Fire Department, Winfield Fire Protection District, Downers Grove Fire Department, and the Wheaton Fire Department provided coverage for Naperville fire stations during this incident. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
