Naperville Firefighters Extinguish Early Morning Structure Fire

800 Block of North Sleight

At 02:30 a.m. on September 27, a General Alarm Response was dispatched for a structure fire in the 800 block of North Sleight. This brought a total of 12 fire department vehicles and 25 personnel to the scene. The first fire department unit arrived on scene in under four minutes, and reported a fire on the balcony on the front of a multi-family residence. A hose line was deployed for extinguishment. All of the occupants were out of the building upon arrival of the fire companies.

The fire was contained to the balcony area only. Overhaul required removal of balcony railing and exterior siding along the door opening, as well as drywall on the in the inside of residence along the door. There was no fire extension into the living area and minor smoke damage inside the residence. A board up company was requested to the scene. Cause was determined to be accidental in nature.

A Transportation Engineering Development Inspector was requested. The fire was under control in approximately 10 minutes. The utilities were not secured, due to the location and extent of the fire. The residence was determined to be habitable. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
