Celebrate National Night Out in Naperville on August 6 and 7

“America’s Night Out Against Crime” begins with a free community kick-off at Centennial Beach followed by dozens of neighborhood events throughout the city

National Night Out LogoNaperville’s National Night Out festivities are fast approaching, and residents are encouraged to mark their calendars and make plans to attend the local events planned for this celebration of community spirit and anti-crime efforts.

Commonly called “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” National Night Out is held annually on the first Tuesday in August. It is a nationwide event designed to heighten drug prevention and crime awareness, generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships.

In addition to gatherings in nearly 50 neighborhoods throughout the community on August 7, Naperville’s National Night Out festivities will include a free community kick-off celebration at Centennial Beach on August 6.

Kick-Off Celebration at Centennial Beach – 5 to 8 p.m. – Monday, August 6
Back by popular demand, the National Night Out kick-off celebration at Centennial Beach, 500 W. Jackson Ave., will feature swimming, games, giveaways and entertainment. There will be a limited amount of free food and beverages available, as well. This event is co-sponsored by the Naperville Park District and will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. A donated pet item to benefit A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter and the Naperville Area Humane Society will get you in for free! Standard pool entrance rates apply without a donation.

Neighborhood Events – 6 to 9 p.m. – Tuesday, August 7
Nearly 50 neighborhoods have registered to host National Night Out events between 6 and 9 p.m. on August 7 with plans to enjoy bounce houses, ice cream socials, live music, cookouts, kids’ parades and more! City employees from the police, fire, public works and utility departments will attend many of the neighborhood events with cool trucks, giveaways and information for families.

The City of Naperville has partnered with Naperville Area Humane Society and A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter for this year’s National Night Out donation drive. Neighborhoods are encouraged to conduct a donation drive for these worthy causes in conjunction with their National Night Out events. A donation box will be provided, and a list of needed items is available at www.naperville.il.us/nno.

Each year, the City of Naperville selects an issue impacting our community to be highlighted on National Night Out with continued focus throughout the year. This year, we are introducing the Naperville Police Department’s Dog Walker Watch program “Paws on Patrol,” which encourages residents out in their neighborhoods to act as extra eyes and ears while out walking their dogs. The program enhances the partnership between police and community while providing resources for neighbors to be more aware and how to effectively observe and report suspicious activity.
