Police Report Results of Route 59 Traffic Safety Initiative

On Wednesday, May 9, 2018, the Naperville Police Department joined with law enforcement agencies from Will County to Cook County to conduct a directed traffic safety initiative along the Route 59 corridor and issued more than 100 citations to motorists in violation of various traffic laws.

Participating agencies included police departments from Naperville, Bartlett, Hoffman Estates, Joliet, Plainfield, Shorewood, Tower Lakes, Warrenville and West Chicago.

The purpose of the initiative was to increase the safety of citizens utilizing the thoroughfare through education and traffic enforcement. Efforts concentrated on speed, distracted driving and occupant restraint violations, among other safety violations.

During the mobilization, participating police departments conducted 245 traffic stops resulting in 139 total citations, which included, among other citations:

  • 69 speeding citations
  • 49 cell phone violations
  • 12 seat belt citations
  • 3 child restraint citations

The Naperville Police Department would to remind all motorists to “Buckle Up” and drive safely.
