Firefighters Battle Townhouse Fire in 300 block of Big Rail Drive

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — At 3:30 PM on Saturday (01/12/19), Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call for the report of smoke in the three-story multi-family residence located in the 300 block of Big Rail Drive. Naperville 911 (PSAP) dispatched a Full Still assignment for the smoke investigation inside. The assignment was upgraded to General Alarm assignment to the reported address which brought 12 pieces of fire apparatus and 26 fire personnel to the scene.

The first unit arrived on scene at 3:36 PM and reported nothing showing from the residence of a multi-family structure. The fire was located in the interior of the third floor of the residence, a hand line was deployed from the exterior to begin extinguishment of the fire. The handline was re-directed to the interior of the structure to complete extinguishment. A complete search of the building was conducted, salvage and overhaul operations were performed. An inspector from Naperville’s Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) was also notified. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and the single unit was deemed uninhabitable. Residents were cleared to return to the unaffected units.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department and Naperville Public Works. The Wheaton Fire Department and the Downers Grove Fire Department provided coverage for Naperville fire stations during this incident. There was no report of injuries to civilians or firefighters on the scene.
