Naperville Fire Department Extinguishes Multi-Family Residence Structure Fire
Structure Fire 1000 block Heritage Hill Drive
At 11:46 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a fire alarm activation on the alarm board for the three story multi-family residence in the 1000 block of Heritage Hill Drive. Naperville 911 (PSAP) dispatched one engine, one truck and one rescue vehicle to the scene. The alarm was immediately upgraded to a General Alarm assignment following additional 911 calls from tenants at that location reporting a fire in the third-floor apartment. The General Alarm assignment brought 11 pieces of fire apparatus and 25 fire personnel to the scene.
The first fire department units arrived on scene at 11:50 a.m., within four minutes of the initial call. When fire personnel entered the third-floor apartment they located a fire in a bedroom. A hose line was advanced into the third-floor apartment to extinguish the fire. Additional fire companies arrived on the scene and completed a search for victims, salvage and overhaul operations and ventilation of smoke from the apartment.
The apartments directly below the fire-floor apartments had minor water damage and was deemed habitable. All residents exited their apartments prior to the arrival of the fire department. An inspector from Naperville’s Transportation Engineering and Development (TED) was also notified. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Two residents were evaluated for injuries and did not require further medical attention. The third-floor apartment unit was deemed uninhabitable due to smoke, fire and water damage.
The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department. The Aurora Fire Department, Wheaton Fire Department and the Warrenville Fire Protection District provided coverage for Naperville fire stations during this incident. There were no injuries to firefighters on the scene.
