Naperville Fire Department Extinguishes Small Structure Fire on Showplace Drive

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — At 2:37 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received an alarm activation at a commercial building located in the 2800 block of Showplace Drive.

Naperville 911(PSAP) dispatched Engine 10 to the reported address. Immediately after dispatch, PSAP received a call from the premise advising a possible fire in the ceiling at the same address. PSAP advised all occupants to evacuate and the alarm was upgraded to a general alarm assignment consisting of 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 personnel, including an Incident Commander and Incident Safety Officer.

The first unit arrived on scene at 2:41 p.m. and reported smoke showing throughout the commercial building. A small fire with embers and charring was found above a sauna unit in the ceiling and was quickly extinguished within five minutes of the arrival of Engine 10. Suppression units on scene immediately began to ventilate the area and initiate overhaul efforts to expose any hidden fire or areas of high heat. An inspector from Naperville’s Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) was requested to the scene, as well as a fire investigator from the Naperville Fire Department.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department and the Aurora Fire Department. The Plainfield Fire Protection District, provided coverage for Naperville fire stations during this incident. The building was deemed habitable and occupants were allowed back in for cleanup.
