National Night Out logoNeighborhoods throughout Naperville are invited to join communities nationwide and participate in National Night Out from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2019. Online registration is now available by visiting

Commonly called “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” National Night Out is a nationwide event designed to heighten drug prevention and crime awareness, generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships. In 2018, nearly 50 Naperville neighborhoods participated by hosting block parties, potlucks, parades, ice cream socials and more!

Neighborhoods are asked to register their 2019 National Night Out events with the City of Naperville by July 15. Registration is free and will allow members of the Naperville Police, Fire, Public Works, Animal Control, Electric and Water Utility departments, and Naperville Park District Police to visit many of the registered events! Visit to access an online registration form or to find additional information about National Night Out activities, which includes a free community kick-off event at Centennial Beach on Monday, August 5.

On the night of the neighborhood events, residents throughout Naperville and across the nation are asked to turn on their porch lights, lock their doors and spend the evening outside with their neighbors, police officers, firefighters and other city personnel. Events such as cookouts, block parties and neighborhood walks will all occur simultaneously throughout Naperville and nationwide.

“I love the level of participation we see from our neighborhoods in National Night Out each year,” said Mayor Steve Chirico. “The commitment shared by our residents and public safety departments to work together for the safety of our community is one of the many things that makes Naperville such a special place to live.”

Donation Drive

The City of Naperville has partnered with Family Shelter Service for this year’s National Night Out donation drive. Neighborhoods are encouraged to conduct a donation drive for this worthy cause in conjunction with their National Night Out events. A donation box will be provided. A printable flyer containing more information about our partner organization and a list of most needed items is available at

Featured Program

Each year, the City of Naperville highlights a program or issue impacting our community on National Night Out with continued focus throughout the year. This year, we are spotlighting the Naperville Police Department’s new partnership with Neighbors – a free app that serves as a new neighborhood watch, sending crime and safety notifications directly to your phone. This partnership provides the Naperville community with local crime and safety information while also aiding detectives in criminal investigations. Neighbors is a free app that anyone can use. Once the app is downloaded, residents can join their neighborhood and use the app to monitor neighborhood activity; share crime and safety-related videos, photos and text-based posts; and receive safety alerts from their neighbors and local law enforcement.
