City Offering Small Business Assistance Grant

$100,000 in CARES Funds Available to Help Businesses Affected by COVID-19

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — In an effort to help small businesses that have been negatively affected by COVID-19, the City of Naperville, in collaboration with the Naperville Development Partnership and Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce, is making a total of $100,000 available through the Naperville Small Business Assistance Grant. This new grant will provide qualifying businesses up to $5,000 for expenses including payroll, rent or mortgage costs, personal protective equipment and building modifications to comply with public health requirements.

“The City of Naperville has found ways to help small businesses throughout this pandemic, including by implementing a moratorium on utility shutoffs and granting a six-month reprieve on liquor license renewals,” Mayor Steve Chirico said. This new grant funding provides another form of support to our small businesses as they do their very best during these challenging times to stay afloat.”

To apply, a business must:

  • Be open and operating in Naperville City limits with a valid Naperville certificate of occupancy.
  • Be owned by a U.S. citizen or legal resident and employ 50 or fewer people.
  • Have annual revenue of less than $2 million in 2019.
  • Be able to document a negative impact of the pandemic on business income.

Recipients will be chosen through a lottery system. Applications that meet basic requirements will be evaluated based on demonstrated need, ability to use funds for eligible expenses and ability to create or retain jobs. The grant is supported by $100,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant funds provided through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, also known as the CARES Act.
