Naperville Encourages Residents to Complete Census Questionnaires
Easy online filing available at 2020census.gov
NAPERVILLE, Ill. —The City of Naperville would like to remind residents that 2020 census mailings have arrived in mailboxes. Residents are urged to follow the instructions on the mailing to fill out the census questionnaire online, by phone or by mail.
The U.S. Census is required by the Constitution to take place once every 10 years and counts every resident in the United States. Census responses are mandatory. The data collected by the census determines the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives and is also used to distribute billions in federal funds to communities. If a response is not collected, a second census form will be mailed to the household. Beginning in April, census enumerators are scheduled to visit the households that have not responded and ask the questions on the census questionnaire in person. All enumerators will wear badges identifying themselves as a census worker.
“Naperville has a lot to gain from having the most accurate census count possible,” Mayor Steve Chirico said. “Everyone counts. The data from this Census will determine federal funding that will go towards schools, roads and other local resources. As each of us observes the Stay-at-home order, now is the perfect time to hop online and complete the census questionnaires.”
The 2020 Census includes nine questions and will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. All questions asked by the census are basic demographic questions: Who lives in the household, how they are related, their age, sex, race, whether they rent or own their house, and their phone number. The census will never ask for banking information or a social security number. The answers provided through the census are used only to produce statistics. The Census Bureau is not permitted to release your responses in any way that could identify you.
