Naperville Firefighters Extinguish Baybrook Lane Attic Fire

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — At 1:25 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a call for a structure fire at a two-story residential building located in the 1700 block of Baybrook Lane. Naperville 911(PSAP) dispatched a general alarm assignment consisting of 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 personnel, including an Incident Commander and Incident Safety Officer to the reported address.

At 1:31 a.m. Engine 6 arrived on scene and found moderate smoke coming from the chimney and roof line of the home. Engine 6 completed a 360-degree survey of the structure. The crew of Engine 6 and supporting suppression units worked to expose areas around the chimney in the attic.

Upon opening the walls, crews found heavy fire in walls of the attic. Suppression companies began an aggressive fire attack by advancing hose lines to the second story of the structure. Overhaul revealed numerous areas of fire spread in the attic area. A coordinated attack from interior and exterior hose lines and master streams brought the fire under control within 60 minutes of initial arrival. Overhaul and ventilation was conducted to expose any areas of high heat and remove smoke from the building.

Two adults and two children were home at the time of the fire and were able to evacuate the building on their own. The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department, Naperville Electric Department, a Naperville Fire Department Fire Investigator, and the American Red Cross. Station coverage was provided by the Plainfield Fire Protection District.

The fire is being investigated by the Naperville fire investigation team. There was a fire in the fireplace earlier in the evening; however, the fire is still under investigation. There were no injuries to civilians, however one firefighter was injured while operating on scene. The building was deemed to be uninhabitable by the Naperville Transportation, Engineering and Development Department (TED).
