Naperville Firefighters Extinguish Structure Fire on the 1400 Block of English Court

At 9:57 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a call for a structure fire at a 2-story single family residence located in the 1400 block English Ct. Naperville 911 PSAP dispatched a general alarm assignment consisting of 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 personnel including an Incident Commander and Incident Safety Officer to the reported address. PSAP also advised all four occupants who were home at the time of the fire to evacuate from the building.

At 10:02 p.m. Engine 5 arrived on scene, established command and identified smoke and a small fire in the attached garage of the home. Engine 5, Squad 8 and supporting suppression units began a coordinated fire attack by advancing a hose line to the garage. Crews extinguished the fire within five minutes of arrival and the fire was contained to the area of origin. The fire did not communicate to the interior of the home and was limited to the garage. Minor overhaul and ventilation was conducted to expose any areas of high heat and remove smoke from the home.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department and the Naperville Transportation, Engineering, and Development Team (TED). Station coverage was provided by the Plainfield Fire Protection District, the Bolingbrook Fire Department and the Lockport Fire Protection District. The cause of the fire was found to be from a lawnmower stored in the garage. One of the occupants from the home was evaluated on scene by fire department personnel, treated and released. There were no injuries to any firefighters while operating on scene. The building was deemed to be habitable and no occupants were displaced.
