Naperville Firefighters Extinguish Structure Fire on 300 Block of S. Julian Street

At 5:31 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 9-1-1 call from a resident reporting a fire involving a single-family home. A general alarm was dispatched to the reported structure fire consisting of three engines, two ladder trucks, one squad, two ambulances, and two shift commanders. The General Alarm assignment brought 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 fire personnel to the scene. The first arriving fire companies on the scene observed smoke and fire coming from the exterior deck of the home and the fire was extending into the attic. The seven occupants of the home evacuated prior to the arrival of the fire department. Fire companies deployed a hand-line to the exterior of the home and attic to extinguish the fire. Salvage and overhaul was performed on the interior of the house and a search was conducted, along with smoke removal, and the extinguish of a hidden fire in the attic.

One firefighter on the scene sustained minor injuries. The firefighter was treated at Edward Hospital and released. The Naperville Fire Investigators on the scene determined the cause of the fire to be accidental from an outside grill fire that extended to the exterior of the home.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department and Transportation, Engineering, Development (TED), Nicor, Naperville Electric Department, and The American Red Cross. The Bolingbrook FD, Plainfield FPD, West Chicago FD, Wheaton FD, Warrenville Fire Protection District, and Plainfield Fire Protection District all provided coverage for Naperville fire stations during this incident.
