Structure Fire 3000 Block of Kingbird Court

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — at 8:54 p.m. Thursday, July 15, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call from the resident reporting a fire involving the garage of a single-family home.

A general alarm was dispatched to the reported structure fire. A general alarm assignment consists of three engines, two ladder trucks, one squad, two ambulances, and two shift commanders.

Within four minutes of the initial 911 call, Truck 10 arrived on scene. T10 reported heavy fire showing from a two-car attached garage and established command. T10 verified everyone was out of the house and deployed a hand-line to extinguish the fire in the garage. Within 10 minutes of the initial 911 call, command advised that the main body of the fire was extinguished.

Salvage and overhaul were performed on the garage, a search was conducted, along with smoke removal from the home and extinguishment of any hidden fire. A second hand-line was utilized to extinguish hidden fire on the second floor.

The resident stated he was alerted by his smoke detectors activating, smelled smoke and called 911. All residents evacuated prior to the fire department’s arrival; however, one cat was still unaccounted for at the time this media release was prepared.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department and the Aurora Fire Department. Naperville's Transportation, Engineering and Development department, NICOR and the Naperville Electric Utility were notified and responded. The Downers Grove and Westmont Fire Departments, Plainfield and Oswego Fire Protection Districts provided coverage for Naperville fire stations during this incident. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.

The cause of this fire was not suspicious in nature and is currently under investigation by the Naperville Fire Investigation Team. The residence was determined to be uninhabitable due to smoke damage.
