Structure Fire in the 1200 Block of Cromwell Lane
NAPERVILLE, Ill. — At 11:01 a.m. on Sunday, April 17, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call from a homeowner located in the 1200 block of Cromwell reporting a fire in their garage. Naperville 911(PSAP) dispatched a general alarm assignment consisting of 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 personnel, including an Incident Commander and Incident Safety Officer to the reported address.
At 11:06 a.m., the first-arriving vehicle arrived on the scene and found two cars on fire in the driveway, along with heavy fire conditions in the garage. The fire from the garage was extending up into the second floor living space and attic. Incident command was established, and crews verified all occupants were out of the home.
Fire companies quickly deployed two hose lines; one to battle the fire in the garage and one to check the second floor. At 11:21 a.m., the fire was deemed under control. Fire companies remained on the scene another 30 minutes to ensure all remaining hot spots were extinguished.
The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police and Electric departments. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. There were no injuries to any occupants or firefighters while operating on scene. Two residents were home at the time of the fire. Both were able to safely evacuate prior to the fire department’s arrival.
The building was deemed to be uninhabitable by the Naperville Transportation, Engineering, and Development team. Five people were displaced as a result of the fire, and it is estimated to have caused $150,000 in damages.
