Structure Fire in the 800 Block of Plainfield-Naperville Road
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 24, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call for smoke in a single-family two-story residential home. A General Alarm was dispatched for the possible structure fire. A General Alarm assignment consists of three engines, two ladder trucks, one squad, two ambulances, two shift commanders. One extra ambulance was added due to the cold weather for a total of 26 personnel.
While units were en-route, PSAP notified the responding units that all four occupants were out of the house and they believed the fire was in the basement. The first units arrived on scene within six minutes. Battalion 2 reported nothing showing, established command and met with the residents. It was determined there was a mattress on fire in the basement. Upon arrival of Squad 8, Truck 7 and Medic 7, crews established a water supply, conducted a primary and secondary search and made an interior attack with a hand-line to extinguish the fire in the basement. Once other fire companies arrived on scene, they assisted with water supply, performed salvage and overhaul, smoke removal, and extinguishment of any hidden fire. The fire was under control within 20 minutes of the initial 911 call.
The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department, the Transportation, Engineering, and Development (TED) Business Group, the Naperville Water Utility, the Naperville Department of Public Works with salt trucks, and Naperville Electric Utility. The American Red Cross was notified to assist the residents with shelter and personal belongings. The Bolingbrook Fire Department, Oswego Fire Protection District, and Plainfield Fire Protection District provided station coverage at Naperville stations. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians. Naperville Fire Investigators were on scene Saturday to determine the cause of this fire. This residence was determined to be uninhabitable.
