DuPage County Offering Energy Assistance

DuPage County Community Services is accepting applications for the annual Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) until June 30, 2021, or until funds are depleted.

Households in need of energy assistance, especially those with disconnection notices, high past due balances, and the general population who have been impacted by wage fluctuations due to COVID-19 are encouraged to apply. View full information by clicking here.

The COVID-19 crisis has impacted many people, both here in the Naperville community and across the globe. Many non-profit and government agencies are providing services to those in need of assistance due to the ongoing pandemic.

Below is a list of local, regional, state and federal agencies that are providing various services that may be of help to you, a loved one, neighbor or friend during this time. Please be sure to further research any resource listed below to confirm any service or operational changes and any residency or other requirements to utilize the service.

Medical Assistance

If you become ill, need medical attention and have symptoms of COVID-19, please call your health care provider before going in for care.

If you do not have a medical provider and have insurance and believe you need non-emergency medical services, you can contact your insurance carrier to help locate care. If you have misplaced your insurance card, your employer’s benefits manager (usually the human resources department) can provide you with the contact information.

If you do not have a medical provider, are uninsured, or have limited or no income and believe you need non-emergency medical services, you can contact your nearest community health center (CHC) by phone and inform them of your need. They will work with you to coordinate appropriate care. CHCs receive funding from the federal government that allows them to charge each patient on a sliding scale fee based on the patient’s income and ability to pay. Community Christmas Meal

Seniors and families in need can make a reservation to receive delivery of up to two meals per household from the YMCA and the Naperville Park District, in lieu of the traditional Christmas luncheon. 

Volunteers will deliver meals between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Thursday, Dec. 24, and recipients must be home during the full delivery window. Reheating instructions will be provided. 

To make a meal reservation, contact Marcia McKenna by Wednesday, Dec. 16 at mmckenna@ymcachicago.org or (630) 579-5705. Please provide your name, home address, phone number, email address and whether you are requesting one or two meals. The program will provide meals for up to 200 people, and reservations may fill before the deadline.

Hotel Discounts for Self-Quarantine

A number of Naperville hotels are offering discounts to medical professionals and residents of Naperville who need to self-quarantine away from home. City of Naperville Utilities (Electric and Water)

The City of Naperville has issued Executive Order 2020-06, which extends the deadlines for a number of payments to the City; waives late fees for non-payment of utility bills through March, April and May 2020; and suspends service disconnections for non-payment. Read the order at the link above.

Utility Resources (Internet, Cellular Service, Natural Gas, etc.)

Many utilities and telecom/internet/cable providers are offering customers various discounts and benefits during the COVID-19 crisis. The Citizens Utility Board, a national non-profit, has compiled a list of benefits and contact information for companies at the link above.
