Theresa Sullivan
Councilwoman
As a working mother with school-aged children who’s passionate about listening to others and problem solving, Councilwoman Theresa Sullivan is using her unique experience and viewpoint to ensure Naperville remains an outstanding community for many years to come. First elected to the City Council in 2019, Sullivan is focused on making decisions that will improve the lives of those who live and work in Naperville.
A partner at Wayfinder Advisors, the professional career advising firm she founded, Sullivan holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Business Administration in Marketing and Organizational Behavior from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, as well as a Master of Science degree in marketing from the same. Prior to her current role, Sullivan began her career in technology consulting with Deloitte before moving into executive relationship management with global tech firms such as Teradata, IBM and LinkedIn.
An active volunteer, Sullivan serves as a career coach for the Notre Dame Alumni Association, membership co-chair for Northwestern’s Council of One Hundred, co-chair of the Beebe Book Club and as an elected precinct committeewoman, in addition to volunteering at her children’s schools. In the past, she has served on the MIS advisory board at Notre Dame, worked as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in Cook County and volunteered on a weeklong Habitat for Humanity project in the Mississippi Delta with a group from St. Thomas the Apostle. Sullivan and her husband Peter have three children: Sean, Andrew and Marcella, and a rescue dog, Cleo. In her free time, Sullivan loves to read and spend time with close friends and family.
Sullivan, who grew up in Naperville and has called the City home for a total of three decades now, believes in good government and combating the perception of conflicts of interest, real or imagined. Her goal is to dive deep into the issues brought to Council, put herself in the shoes of stakeholders on those issues and address the City’s sustainability and resiliency opportunities to keep her hometown thriving now and into the future.
Councilwoman Sullivan serves as a liaison to the Special Events and Cultural Amenities commission and the Emergency Telephone System Board. She also serves as a liaison to the community group Naper Pride, which is a family-centered organization that celebrates LGBTQ+ members of the community and focuses on inclusivity for ALL.
Councilwoman Sullivan’s current term expires in 2023.
