Pet First Aid Kit

Accidents or injuries can happen at any time, keeping a pet first aid kit handy will better prepare us for those occasions. Premade pet first aid kits are available for purchase at many local retailers, or you can use the list below to make your own.

  • Container to hold items, such as small rubber maid or tackle box
  • Paperwork, including the pet's health record, medications, local and national poison control numbers, regular veterinary clinic hours and telephone numbers, and emergency clinic hours and telephone number.
  • Pet first aid booklet or guide
  • Triple antibiotic ointment
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Ear syringe -- two ounce capacity
  • Gauze sponges -- 50 four-by-four inch sponges, two per envelope
  • Ace self-adhering athletic bandage -- three-inch width
  • Sterile, non-adherent pads
  • Sterile stretch gauze bandage -- three inches by four yards
  • Vet Wrap bandage
  • Bandage scissors
  • Rectal thermometer
  • Lubricant such as White petroleum jelly, KY or mineral oil
  • Eye wash
  • Pepto Bismol or Kaopectate tablets
  • Generic Benadryl capsules -- 25mg, for allergies
  • Hydrocortisone acetate -- one percent cream
  • Buffered aspirin (not safe for cats)
  • Custom splints
