Traffic Collisions

In the event of a traffic collision, stop your vehicle in a safe, well-lit and public place. Pull your vehicle off the roadway and out of the way of traffic, if possible. Help any injured person(s) if necessary or requested.

Collision Involving Unattended Vehicles

Stop your vehicle in a safe area and off the roadway whenever possible and out of the way of traffic. Leave the following information with the vehicle or property:

• Name
• Address
• Phone number
• License plate number
• Date and time of crash

If you fail to leave the above information you may be fined up to $2,500 and/or sentenced to jail for up to one year.

Crash Reports

A traffic collision report will be completed for all motor vehicle collisions involving injury and/or damage to any person's property in excess of $1,500 when all drivers are insured. For minor private property collisions (not involving injury), officers will provide motorists with a pamphlet explaining the procedure of exchanging names, phone numbers, vehicle descriptions and insurance information.

Motorists involved in a collision should immediately check for injury to all parties. If an individual has been injured, summon medical assistance and police by calling 9-1-1.

Motor vehicle collisions that result in injury, collisions that result in over $1,500 damage to any person's property, hit and run collisions and collisions involving suspected driver impairment due to alcohol and/or drugs will be given a full and thorough investigation.
