Energy Efficiency Grant Programs

Renewable Energy Grant

Naperville’s Renewable Energy Program enables Naperville's residential and business electric customers to make voluntarily monthly donations through their electric bills to support the City’s investment in renewable energy. Through effective in-house management of the program, the City has been able to save money and is investing it back into the community through the Renewable Energy Grant program. Renewable Energy Grant funding will be available in Spring 2017.

IMEA Electric Efficiency Grant

Naperville's Electric Efficiency Grant Program is now open to non-residential customers. Approximately 25 grants will be awarded in 2017 for projects such as the installation of light-emitting diode (LED) interior and exterior lighting systems. Projects may receive up to 50 percent of the total project cost (up to $25,000) and awarded funds must be matched dollar for dollar.

Nicor Energy Efficiency Rebates

Improvements in the efficiency of your home’s furnace, boiler, water heater or insulation can reduce energy costs, increase savings and help our environment through a reduced carbon footprint. Choosing energy efficient products is a simple way to help Naperville become a more sustainable community!

The Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program is designed to offer ideas and tools to help Illinois residents and businesses in Nicor's territory save energy and money. The program provides Nicor Gas customers with energy education, resources and financial rebates to make energy use in their home more efficient and affordable.

Rebates are available for the purchase and installation of qualifying energy efficient furnaces, water heaters, boilers, programmable thermostats, insulation and water heater upgrades in single-family homes and multi-family homes that are four units or less. Additional rebates are available for business customers.

To participate, residents must be customers of Nicor Gas. Owners of single-family homes or multi-family dwellings of four units or less can participate in the EnergySMART program. Homeowners can qualify for rebates when they replace inefficient furnaces with more efficient units from June 1, 2015 through May 31, 2016.  Rebate levels are based on the Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (or AFUE) of the new furnace.

Upgrading to a more energy-efficient furnace with an AFUE of at least 95% percent can qualify the homeowner for a rebate of $200 to $250. Rebate levels can increase if the homeowner installs other qualifying equipment and includes a programmable thermostat. For more information, call (877) 886-4239 or visit

Applications must be submitted to Nicor within 90 days of installation or by June 30, 2016, whichever comes first and can be completed online at Nicor’s website. Funding is limited and participants are strongly encouraged to submit applications as soon after installation as possible.

Multi-Family Energy Efficient Rebate Program

Managers or owners of condominiums or apartment complexes of more than four units may be eligible to participate in the Multi-Family Energy Efficient Rebate Program.  For more information, call (877) 886-4239 or visit  to view the complete list of program requirements.
