Private Trees - Removal and Preservation

Per City ordinance, residential parcels in excess of 1½ acres need to apply for a tree removal permit. Residential parcels less than 1½ acres are not affected by this ordinance. Following application for a tree removal permit, the City will work with the property owner to determine the appropriate action for removal and replacement of trees.

All non-residential parcels, regardless of the lot size, must apply for a tree removal permit prior to removing any tree 4 inches or greater in diameter. Parkway trees are city property and may only be removed by the city.

Naperville encourages tree preservation on all properties involved in construction activity.
