Firefighters Extinguish Garage Fire on Larsen Lane

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — At 3:11 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a call from a homeowner stating that their attached garage was struck by lightning and was on fire. The lone occupant self-evacuated prior to the fire department’s arrival. The single-family home is located in the 1400 block of Larsen Lane. Naperville 911(PSAP) dispatched a general alarm assignment consisting of 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 personnel, including an incident commander and incident safety officer, to the reported address.

At 3:18 p.m., the first engine arrived on scene and reported fire coming through the garage roof with flames extending into the living space above. Fire companies ensured all residents were out of the home and then quickly stretched several hose lines to contain the fire. At 3:26 p.m., the fire was deemed under control. Fire companies remained on the scene another 30 minutes to ensure all hot spots were extinguished.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Lisle Woodridge Fire Department, Naperville Police Department, and Naperville Electric. Station coverage was provided by the Wheaton and Plainfield Fire Departments. The cause of the fire was attributed to lightning. There were no injuries to any occupants or firefighters while operating on scene. The building was deemed to be habitable by the Naperville Transportation, Engineering, and Development Team. The blaze is estimated to have caused $40,000 in damages.
