Firefighters Extinguish Basement Fire in 1000 Block of Sanctuary Lane

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- At 11:37 a.m. on Friday June 16, 2023, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a call from a resident reporting a fire in the basement of their single-family home located in the 1000 block of Sanctuary Lane. The lone resident, who safely evacuated prior to the fire department’s arrival, was alerted to the fire by their smoke detectors. Naperville 911(PSAP) dispatched a general alarm assignment consisting of 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 personnel including an Incident Commander and Incident Safety Officer to the reported address.

At 11:41 a.m., the first vehicle arrived on scene and found moderate smoke throughout the house and an active fire burning in the basement. Fire companies ensured all residents were out of the home and then quickly stretched several hose lines to contain the fire. At 1150 hours, the fire was deemed under control. Fire companies remained on the scene another 45 minutes to ventilate the home and ensure all hot spots were extinguished.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department. Backfill to the stations was provided by the Bolingbrook, Oswego, Plainfield, and Warrenville Fire Departments. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. There were no injuries to any occupants or firefighters while operating on scene. The building was deemed to be habitable by the Naperville Transportation, Engineering, and Development Team.
