West Street Reconstruction Begins Week of August 7
Removal, replacement of pavement between Emerald, Rickert occurring through September
The City of Naperville will begin reconstruction work on West Street between Emerald Drive and Rickert Drive the week of Aug. 7 as part of the City’s 2023 Street Resurfacing and Reconstruction Program. Work will take place in two phases to minimize impacts, and pending weather and unforeseen circumstances should be complete and all lanes reopened by the end of September.
Construction includes removal and replacement of the pavement and subgrade on West Street between Emerald Drive and Rickert Drive. During phase one, crews will reconstruct the northbound side of the road, moving north and southbound traffic to the southbound side. Once complete, crews will reconstruct the southbound side of the roadway and all traffic will relocate temporarily to the northbound side. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction at all times.
This work will provide motorists with a smoother driving surface and improve the look of a City-owned road in this area. Motorists should allow additional travel time if visiting this area or use alternate routes. Traffic control devices will be in place to direct motorists through the construction area.
Funded by state and local motor fuel tax funds, Naperville’s Street Resurfacing and Reconstruction Program helps maintain safety and improve motorists’ experience on City roads. Roads are evaluated each year to determine those that need preventative maintenance such as patching, microsurfacing and crack-filling, or complete replacement of the entire street surface layer by resurfacing or reconstruction.
